OK - today we had plans to ride 70+ miles...but that was derailed by high winds and close to 4,000 ft of climbing in 47 miles - sigh...
Today started with more wildflowers.
Alpine is the first cute town we come to after a short windy climb - this is the old town hall.
The indian casino outside of Alpine...
The long winding road, old hiway 8 takes us up into the mountains and parallels the interstate Hiway 8...
Barbara grinding it out with the trucks...
Lesli doing the same!
Our first vista point..
See that summit sign?
The border patrol is very active in this area - we saw tons of border patrol vehicles.
The vista point just beyond the summit...
It makes sense that they have windmills here - it was windy all day long...
We weren't going to spend the night in Live Oak Springs but Lesli & Barb were pooped so we decided to do the long ride tomorrow - when we have only 3 smaller climbs and a BIG downhill. Yea!
The down side is that the RV place is a dive - can you say overflowing toilets and scary showers and oh yes, we were warned about the meth addicts in the neighborhood...sigh, we are just too tired to let all that stop us from staying anyway.
